Denture Adhesives Can Be Dangerous
You old denture may no longer fit like it did when new. As your mouth changes and shrinks, your denture remains the same and becomes loose. You still enjoy carrots, steak, and taffy, but have trouble chewing them so you may have started limiting your food choices.
Or you may have turned to denture adhesives that allow you to attempt to fix your dental instability and forget it - to eat what you like again.
Denture adhesives have recently made the news after researchers found that too much denture adhesive applied too often can result in zinc poisoning, copper depletion or neuropathy (nerve disease). Symptoms include numbness, weakness, abdominal pain. lethargy, vomiting, anemia, nausea, tingling in the extremities, loss of sensation, dizziness and diarrhea.
Dental adhesives have their place - as a temporary measure to hold an immediate denture in place while you are healing or for a boost of confidence during public speaking. But they're intended to be temporary.
If you experience any of the above symptoms call us. And remember, if your denture doesn't fit, you need a new one. Call now for an appointment.
